SOCKS5 proxies with username and password

Every ZenProxy product except Private ISP works over SOCKS5 as well as HTTP(S), with the same username, password and country targeting. Pick SOCKS5 in the generator, copy the line, and use it in any app or library that speaks SOCKS5.

Which products support SOCKS5

ProductProtocolsFrom (live)
Residential LiteHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$0.36/GB
Residential PremiumHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$1.49/GB
MobileHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$2.56/GB
Unlimited ResidentialHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$80.15/day
Shared ISPHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$0.72/IP a month
Static DatacenterHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$0.02/IP a month
Rotating DatacenterHTTP(S) and SOCKS5$2.33/day
IPv6HTTP(S) and SOCKS5$2.33/day
Private ISPHTTP(S)$2.75/IP for 30 days

Private ISP is sold as HTTP(S) only. On a few plans the network has no SOCKS5 gateway; the generator then offers HTTP only, so the protocols you can pick there are always the ones your plan supports.

SOCKS5 or HTTP: which to use

An HTTP proxy understands web requests. For https:// sites it opens a tunnel with CONNECT, so it carries encrypted traffic without seeing inside it. SOCKS5 works one level lower: the proxy opens a TCP connection to whatever address your app asks for and passes the bytes both ways, so it also suits apps that don’t speak HTTP.

  • Choose SOCKS5 when your app only offers SOCKS5, when it isn’t a web app (for example desktop tools routed through Proxifier), or when you want DNS lookups done at the proxy with socks5h://.
  • Choose HTTP for everything else. HTTP lines work for http:// and https:// sites, every browser and HTTP library supports them, and they’re the only option in Chrome when the proxy needs a password.
  • Both carry the same HTTPS traffic through the same exit IP. Pick the protocol your tool supports best; the site you visit matters far more than the protocol.

Get a SOCKS5 line

  1. Open the proxy generator and choose your plan.
  2. Set Protocol to SOCKS5. Where your plan uses a separate SOCKS5 port, the port in the line changes; on some plans HTTP and SOCKS5 share one port. Always copy the port from the line.
  3. Set Proxy Type: Rotating for a new IP on each new connection, or Sticky to keep one IP, with a Sticky Duration and a Sticky Amount (up to 1,000 lines at a time).
  4. Choose a Format. protocol://username:password@hostname:port gives you a URL such as socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT; hostname:port:username:password suits apps with separate fields.
  5. Copy the lines into your app or code.

socks5:// or socks5h://?

With socks5://, your machine looks up the site’s address and sends the IP to the proxy. With socks5h://, the proxy receives the hostname and looks it up itself, so DNS happens at the exit and nothing leaks from your network. The generator writes socks5://; in curl and Python, change the scheme to socks5h:// and leave the rest of the line as it is.

curl
curl -x "socks5h://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT" https://ipinfo.io/json
Python (requests)
# pip install "requests[socks]"
import requests

proxy = "socks5h://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT"
r = requests.get("https://ipinfo.io/json", proxies={"http": proxy, "https": proxy}, timeout=30)
print(r.json())

More languages, with SOCKS5 examples: Node.js, Axios, Go and PHP. Scrapy’s default download handlers don’t support SOCKS proxies, so use HTTP lines with Scrapy.

SOCKS5 in apps and browsers

  • Anti-detect browsers such as AdsPower, Multilogin, GoLogin and Dolphin Anty: set the proxy type to SOCKS5 and enter the host, the SOCKS5 port, the username and the password.
  • Proxifier: choose SOCKS Version 5 and enable authentication.
  • ZennoPoster: paste socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT into Set proxy.
  • Chrome, and tools that drive it such as Puppeteer and Selenium: Chrome can’t send a username and password to a SOCKS5 proxy. Use HTTP lines there, or SOCKS5 without a password from an IP on your Access & API allow-list, on a plan that supports login by IP.
  • Firefox: its SOCKS settings have no password fields, so the same applies.

SOCKS5 at other providers

If you’re comparing providers, this is what their own documentation said when we checked on 7 November 2026:

  • Oxylabs lists SOCKS5 for its residential, mobile, datacenter and ISP proxies. Residential SOCKS5 uses the entry point pr.oxylabs.io:7777 with socks5h://, and their country-specific entry points don’t work over SOCKS5, so the country goes in the username. See ZenProxy vs Oxylabs.
  • Bright Data says SOCKS5 works on its datacenter, ISP and residential networks through port 22228, with DNS resolved on their side only (socks5h). Residential SOCKS5 reaches HTTPS targets only, on a set list of target ports. See ZenProxy vs Bright Data.
  • ZenProxy: SOCKS5 on every product except Private ISP, with the same username, password and country targeting as HTTP lines.

Questions

Do all ZenProxy proxies support SOCKS5?

All except Private ISP, which is sold as HTTP(S). If a plan’s network has no SOCKS5 gateway, the generator offers HTTP only, so the options you see there are always the ones that work.

Is SOCKS5 faster than HTTP?

Not in a way you’ll notice for web traffic. Both carry the same HTTPS bytes through the same exit IP; the site and the IP type matter far more. Use whichever your tool supports best.

Does SOCKS5 encrypt my traffic?

No. SOCKS5 doesn’t add encryption. HTTPS sites stay encrypted end to end through either protocol, so the proxy can’t read them.

Can I use SOCKS5 for UDP?

Plan on TCP only. Our Mobile plans don’t support UDP or HTTP/3, and we don’t promise UDP on other plans, so ask support before you buy for an app that needs UDP.

Why does Chrome ignore my SOCKS5 password?

Chrome doesn’t support usernames and passwords for SOCKS5 proxies. Use an HTTP line in Chrome, or SOCKS5 without a password from an allow-listed IP on a plan that supports login by IP.

How do I test a SOCKS5 line?

Run curl -x "socks5h://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT" https://ipinfo.io/json and check the IP and country. Our online proxy checker tests HTTP proxies, so check the HTTP version of the same line there.

SOCKS5 residential proxies from 1 GB

Buy any amount of Residential Lite from 1 GB, set Protocol to SOCKS5 in the generator, and copy your first line as soon as the payment clears.
