Quick setup
- 1Open Settings, search for “proxy” and open Network Settings.
- 2Choose Manual proxy configuration.
- 3Enter the host and port as HTTP Proxy and tick Also use this proxy for HTTPS.
- 4Sign in with your proxy username and password when asked.
Your proxy details
After you buy a plan, open My proxies. Choose the Proxy Type (Rotating or Sticky), the Protocol (HTTP or SOCKS5) and a Format, then copy a line. The generator offers three formats:
HOST:PORT:USERNAME:PASSWORD Paste into apps and anti-detect browsers that split the fields or auto-fill them.
USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT Tools that want credentials before the address.
http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT Code and command-line tools. This is the proxy URL used in the examples below.
In the examples on this page, replace USERNAME, PASSWORD, HOST and PORT with the values from your line. SOCKS5_PORT is the port the generator shows when you pick SOCKS5.
Residential lines are either rotating (a new IP on new connections) or sticky (one IP for the time you choose). Datacenter and ISP plans give you a list of dedicated IPs, one per line as IP:PORT:USERNAME:PASSWORD, and each line is one fixed IP.
To test a line, open https://ipinfo.io/json through it: it shows the exit IP and country. For HTTP lines you can also use the free proxy checker.
Set the proxy
- 1Open Settings, type “proxy” in the search box, and click Settings… next to Network Settings. (Newer versions also list it under Privacy & Security.)
- 2Choose Manual proxy configuration.
- 3Enter HOST as the HTTP Proxy and PORT as its Port, then tick Also use this proxy for HTTPS.
- 4Click OK.
- 5Open https://ipinfo.io/json and enter USERNAME and PASSWORD when Firefox asks.
SOCKS5 in Firefox
Firefox’s SOCKS settings have no username or password fields, so use SOCKS5 there only if your IP is on the Access & API allow-list and your plan supports login by IP. Then fill in SOCKS Host and the SOCKS5 port, choose SOCKS v5 and tick Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5. Otherwise, use an HTTP line.
Several proxies in Firefox
Each Firefox profile keeps its own proxy settings. Open about:profiles, create a profile per proxy, and launch the one you need. To make sticky lines, open the generator, set Proxy Type to Sticky, choose a Sticky Duration if your plan offers one, set how many lines you want in Sticky Amount, then copy or download them. Each line keeps its IP for the chosen time. The session part of a sticky username differs by plan, so always generate sticky lines instead of editing usernames by hand.
Choose the country
On residential plans, add -country- and a two-letter country code to the end of the username, for example USERNAME-country-us or USERNAME-country-gb. To combine a country with a state, a city or a sticky session, build the line in the generator, which shows only the options your plan supports. Datacenter and ISP IPs have a fixed location that you choose when you buy them. Type the username with the country tag in Firefox’s sign-in prompt.
Tips
- Keep
localhost, 127.0.0.1in No proxy for so local tools keep working. - Use a sticky line for browsing sessions; rotating lines can change IP between page loads.

Questions
Can I use a proxy in Firefox only?
Yes. Firefox’s Manual proxy configuration applies to Firefox alone, unlike system proxy settings.
Does Firefox support proxy authentication?
Yes, for HTTP proxies: Firefox shows a sign-in prompt and can save the credentials in its password manager.
Can Firefox use a SOCKS5 proxy with a password?
Not from its settings, which have no password fields. Use an HTTP line, or SOCKS5 from an allow-listed IP.
What does “Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5” do?
It sends hostname lookups through the SOCKS5 proxy, so DNS doesn’t leak from your network.
