How to use proxies in ZennoPoster

ZennoPoster takes a proxy as one string: protocol://login:password@ip:port. Our generator writes lines in exactly that format, so you copy them, set them in your template with the Browser settings action, and give each thread its own line.

Quick setup

  1. 1Copy lines in protocol://username:password@hostname:port format.
  2. 2Add Browser settings with Set proxy at the start of the template.
  3. 3Load sticky lines from a list so each thread gets its own IP.
  4. 4Open ipinfo.io/json in the template to check the IP.

Your proxy details

After you buy a plan, open My proxies. Choose the Proxy Type (Rotating or Sticky), the Protocol (HTTP or SOCKS5) and a Format, then copy a line. The generator offers three formats:

HOST:PORT:USERNAME:PASSWORD

Paste into apps and anti-detect browsers that split the fields or auto-fill them.

USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT

Tools that want credentials before the address.

http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT

Code and command-line tools. This is the proxy URL used in the examples below.

In the examples on this page, replace USERNAME, PASSWORD, HOST and PORT with the values from your line. SOCKS5_PORT is the port the generator shows when you pick SOCKS5.

Residential lines are either rotating (a new IP on new connections) or sticky (one IP for the time you choose). Datacenter and ISP plans give you a list of dedicated IPs, one per line as IP:PORT:USERNAME:PASSWORD, and each line is one fixed IP.

To test a line, open https://ipinfo.io/json through it: it shows the exit IP and country. For HTTP lines you can also use the free proxy checker.

The proxy format ZennoPoster expects

ZennoLab’s help for the Set proxy setting gives the format protocol://login:password@ip:port, or protocol://ip:port without a login. The protocol can be http, socks4 or socks5; with no protocol, ZennoPoster uses http.

In the generator, set Format to protocol://username:password@hostname:port. Your lines then come out ready to paste:

HTTP line (Protocol: HTTP)
http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT
SOCKS5 line (Protocol: SOCKS5)
socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT

Note: Keep each line exactly as the generator writes it. Sticky usernames carry a session ID, and editing them by hand breaks the session. All our products except Private ISP offer SOCKS5; Private ISP lines are HTTP only.

Set the proxy in a template

  1. 1In ProjectMaker, add the Browser settings action at the very start of your template, before the first page loads. (Menu names may differ by version.)
  2. 2Choose Set proxy and paste a line, or set it from a variable, for example one filled from a list of lines (below).
  3. 3Add an action that opens https://ipinfo.io/json, run the template once, and check that the IP and country match your line.
  4. 4In HTTP request actions such as GET request, open the Proxy tab and choose the project’s Current proxy, so requests leave from the same IP as the browser.

Note: ZennoLab says Set proxy can also emulate geolocation, time zone and WebRTC for the proxy. Turn that on, so the browser profile matches the proxy’s country.

One IP per thread, from a list of sticky lines

When ZennoPoster runs a template in several threads, give each thread its own line, or every thread leaves from the same IP.

  1. 1In the generator, set Proxy Type to Sticky, pick a Sticky Duration that covers one run of the template, set Sticky Amount to at least your number of threads, choose the URL format and save the lines to a text file.
  2. 2In ProjectMaker, add a list to the project that loads from that file.
  3. 3At the start of the template, use a list operation that takes one line (Get line) and puts it into a variable.
  4. 4Pass that variable to Set proxy in Browser settings. Each run now gets its own IP.

Need more lines later? Generate a new batch; on per-GB plans, extra lines cost nothing because you pay for data, not for lines.

Rotating or sticky lines?

Use sticky lines in anything that runs a browser or signs in. A browser opens many connections for one page, and on a rotating line each of them can get a different IP. Rotating lines suit templates that only send HTTP requests to independent pages. Rotation happens per connection. A rotating line gets a new IP when your client opens a new connection; requests sent through the same open HTTPS tunnel leave from the same IP.

For accounts you open again over days or weeks, use static ISP proxies: the IP stays the same for the whole plan. More on the differences: rotating vs sticky proxies.

Choose the country

On residential plans, add -country- and a two-letter country code to the end of the username, for example USERNAME-country-us or USERNAME-country-gb. To combine a country with a state, a city or a sticky session, build the line in the generator, which shows only the options your plan supports. Datacenter and ISP IPs have a fixed location that you choose when you buy them.

ProxyChecker and Proxifier

ZennoPoster comes with ProxyChecker, which stores proxy lists, rechecks them and hands proxies to templates through the Get proxy action. It’s built for big lists of separate proxies. With ZenProxy you usually don’t need it: one rotating line already reaches many IPs, and the generator makes as many sticky lines as you have threads.

Project settings also have a Use Proxifier option, for templates whose traffic you route through Proxifier.

Tips

  • Put Browser settings with Set proxy first in the template, so no request goes out from your own IP before the proxy is set.
  • Block images and media in templates that only collect data, to cut data use on per-GB plans.
  • Lower the number of threads for strict sites before you blame the proxy; bursts from many threads at once are easy to spot.
  • Test new templates against https://ipinfo.io/json first, then against the real site.

Troubleshooting

  • The page shows your own IP

Set proxy ran after the first page load, or the variable was empty. Move Browser settings to the start and check that the list operation put a line into the variable.

  • 407 Proxy Authentication Required

The proxy didn’t accept the username and password. Copy a fresh line from the generator, remove stray spaces, and URL-encode special characters in URL formats.More on this error →

  • A SOCKS5 line doesn’t connect

Generate it with Protocol set to SOCKS5, so it has the right port, and keep the socks5:// prefix. Private ISP lines are HTTP only.More on this error →

  • All threads have the same IP

They share one line. Load a list with one sticky line per thread, as above.More on this error →

  • Wrong country

Set the country in the generator or add -country-xx to the username on residential plans, then check https://ipinfo.io/json.More on this error →

Questions

What proxy format does ZennoPoster use?

protocol://login:password@ip:port, for example http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT or socks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:SOCKS5_PORT. Choose the protocol://username:password@hostname:port format in our generator and your lines match it.

Does ZennoPoster support SOCKS5 proxies with a password?

Yes. ZennoLab’s help lists http, socks4 and socks5 for Set proxy, with the login and password in the string. Every ZenProxy product except Private ISP offers SOCKS5.

Which proxies work best for ZennoPoster templates?

Residential Lite with sticky lines for most browser templates, Residential Premium for strict sites, static ISP IPs for accounts that must keep one IP for weeks, and rotating lines for templates that only send HTTP requests to independent pages.

How many proxies do I need for ZennoPoster?

One line per thread that runs at the same time. On per-GB residential plans you pay for data, not lines, so you can generate up to 1,000 sticky lines at a time at no extra cost. Static ISP and datacenter plans are priced per IP, so buy one IP per thread.

Do I need ProxyChecker with ZenProxy?

Usually not. ProxyChecker is for large lists of separate proxies. A rotating line already reaches many IPs, and the generator gives you as many sticky lines as you need.

Try it with ZennoPoster for $0.49

Get 1 GB of Residential Lite, then copy your rotating or sticky lines from the generator and paste them into the steps above.
